What do property management companies have to say about all the attention undocumented immigrants are getting? If there are 11 million illegals in the country, how many apartment leases does that represent? How many property maintenance workers are illegals? How many of your commercial tenants have created this year’s budget around the labor cost of the illegals in their payroll or in the payroll of their subcontractors?

If the issue plays out as I expect, there will be a compromise bill that everyone in office can use to get more votes this fall while the situation in all practicality will not change. The people who live in such dire poverty that they are willing to leave their loved ones and live the difficult life of an illegal just to be able to send a few dollars home each week will keep coming no matter what.

No one is going to go back to where they came from and try to re-enter the country legally. There is no way for most of these folks to enter legally….and they cannot afford to stop working.

So the immigration law will be nothing more than window dressing the politicians can use to get re-elected. Oh well, business as usual.
