watch the little things
- Welcome to the property management blog, where we look at the world of property management. Sometimes the little things make a difference. I am staying at a fairly nice condo property in a resort area while attending a conference where I lead a session on how to watch your demand waves. Watching phone call, walk-in and rental traffic in a property can give you a lot of clues about how well your property is doing and how well it could or should be doing. But sometimes the little things detract from your experience. My room was in pretty good shape, but I noticed all the light switches are smudgy and dirty. Yuck. This just really makes an otherwise good experience go sour. It is a sure indicator that the housekeeping supervisor does not take more than a quick look, if any kind of look, to make sure housekeeping standards are being met. It also means the people doing the work are not paying attention and are not trying to give their customer s a good experience. It makes you wonder what else is wrong or what else is not clean. That is not what you want your customers thinking, is it? So watch the little things. You may have an otherwise nice property, but the restrooms might be funky, or the litter in the parking lot doesn’t get picked up. These are simple things that can be remedied.
