In todays world, you have to know exactly what you are doing in business. We all know the age old phrase, what you do not know cannot hurt you. Well this is actually not true. What you do not know in terms of building maintenance can hurt you tremendously. Lack of knowledge can hurt you directly in your wallet. Worse yet, can seriously injure a tenant and then you are in some huge financial trouble.

There are lists of things you can do to ensure you have a good building maintenance schedule going. The first thing you can ensure is that you do have a good schedule going of what you do by week and by month. When you set this schedule of repairs, you need to stick to it. If you miss a day, you need to reschedule that event sooner than later. Do not let your facility go with out much needed check ups.

Hopefully, when you planned the building or the remodeling of your structure, you laid down great foundations. Finding the right contractor and maintaining a great relationship with that contractor are key. This way if something came up that need immediate attention, they could be there for you. They most likely could handle most of your building maintenance issues that could arise. On top of that, great foundation, investing in good carpeting (if you are using carpet in your facilities) will greatly benefit you. Most carpet manufacturers agree that if you take good care of your carpet, you will save money in the long run. Most companies replace their carpet not because it is torn or damaged, but because it looks faded and old. You have to know your business and understand if the carpet is going to get a lot of foot traffic. Keeping your carpet on a regular cycle of cleaning can save you from replacing your entire floor of carpet. Keeping carpet clean as part of your regular building maintenance schedule will be a huge benefit to your bottom line.

What attracts customers to your building? Is it your great pricing, they way your facility looks and feels or is it security. If security is one of the biggest reasons customer want come down and store at your facility, then you have to ensure that it is fully functional at all times. Having a trained individual on staff that can fix most routine security issues is key or having a great partnership with your security company as a back up. It is also key to make sure that you find the right security company for your facility. Do some research and make some phone calls to check their credentials. You do not want the biggest reason for customers to store at your facility to not work correctly. Especially when you hired a company to fix all security, issues and they cannot perform the task.

We could go on for pages and pages about how property protect your facility and have a good building maintenance schedule. You want to be proactive with your facilitys needs versus reactive. The better you plan for events to happen, the better prepared you are. Do not try to short cut your repair schedule to save time or money, because in the long run, it might cost your more time and money if you neglect your facility.
