Maintaining Those Properties
When living in a temporary housing situation, apartment maintenance is an important part of your life. The level to which the management maintains and stays devoted to a high level of apartment maintenance certainly will weigh heavily on your mind the longer you are in temporary housing situation.
Are you finding yourself pretty much responsible for your own apartment maintenance though? In some scenarios, this is an unavoidable truth to living in temporary housing. In nearly any city this is going to be true. So, if you find yourself stuck with taking care of all the cleaning, repairing and other odd jobs that typically accompany any apartment maintenance, the best thing you could do for yourself is take a positive approach to this kind of work.
Some of the jobs you will probably have to do in a temporary housing situation are not going to be enjoyable. An example would be taking the pipes off of the sink to unclog it. In some cases, whatever is in there clogging the drain is not only going to be incredibly smelly, it will likely be a combination of hair, dirt and any amount of other indescribable types of gunk. But you are in luck, because here is where positive thinking comes in.
If you can train yourself to be entirely present with whatever apartment maintenance you may find yourself doing, then you will realize that no job is too gross and no task will be too disgusting. The reason these jobs become undesirable is because we allow our thinking minds to get in the way of the task at hand. Instead of just cleaning the toilet or just unclogging the sink, we are annoying ourselves with thoughts such as, why do we have to do this? And, someone else should be doing this instead of us. But thinking like this will do nothing but cause you suffering, albeit in a small way.
The solution, then, is quite simple. All you have to do is just stop annoying yourself. While this may seem like a strange way to approach things, it really is intuitive. Anything that people do well or excel at is done without thinking. An example of this mindset would be the piano player. While the skilled piano player is hitting the keys, there can be no thinking going on. It is just note after note after note. There is no grocery list being made in their heads or worry about the future. It is just music. If the piano player starts to think, they become self-conscious. This is a problem because then they start thinking about the notes they are playing and will eventually slip up and hit a wrong note.
It is the same with cleaning your apartment. If you can become totally present and a part of your cleaning and maintenance, then you instantly become free from it. If there is no thinking or discriminating mind, then you start to realize that you are never separate from whatever activity you are doing. When you are scrubbing the toilet, just scrub the toilet. When it is time to patch the leak in the ceiling, just do it without thinking. This type of approach can extend to so many aspects of your life. When time to drive, just drive. And, if you are lucky, those traffic jams might not annoy you quite as much in the future.
