Look For Good Landlords
Look For Good Landlords
- Who has a good landlord? More than likely, anyone reading this is not going to say they do. For the most part, any landlord in a town is going to have a bad reputation with somebody, and usually for a good reason. This is something that does not make much sense. If you consider the job description of a landlord, they should be here to serve you. The landlord is usually a guy, or woman, you pay to take care of you while you stay on his property. They should be held accountable for everything that happens in their building. In reality, they are usually nothing more than yet another greedy character. When a pipe is rusted through in your apartment, most people are lucky to have them come within a week. Some have reported stories about them ignoring power outages for weeks on end. Some find it hard to understand why it is that they can be so seemingly immune from the woes of their tenants. Instead of working hard to make the place comfortable and enjoyable, they are like the troll under the bridge. You move in full of expectation and even excitement at times. It is a new place, at least for you, and there seems to be boundless opportunity. A few months after the excitement has worn off, however, you inevitably have to deal with them. He or she will most of the time see dollar signs the minute you walk through the door. When things go wrong, expect them to somehow blame you. When you have an unruly neighbor or a problem to be fixed, expect them to be conveniently missing. Of course then there is the issue of moving out. Yes, that final and fateful meeting with the troll. This is usually when the club has been polished, the splinters have been sharpened and his horns tilted in full attack mode. When you gave them that deposit upon moving in, most likely you thought you would get some of it back. Wrong. What you probably did not realize was that even though the place may be cleaner now than when you moved in, you are still going to be charged for cleaning fees. These could include anything from having the carpet steamed for a ridiculous price, to them keeping all the money to repaint the interior, which they claim you destroyed. Whether or not you were responsible for any of this does not matter, because they will demand there retribution. Not every landlord necessarily fits this example, so keep a look out for a good landlord. Such will probably always be the case when money is involved. People act in strange and often negative ways because of the power of money. Tenants should become more forceful about the way they are being treated. Rather than just idly sitting by and having nothing get done, demand that you get what you are paying for. If they are continually negligent or devious, report them to local and state agencies. Just because you are renting a property does not mean you give up your rights to live comfortably. Do not take any guff from the trolls. Instead, flush them out from under the bridge and take away their clubs.
