Happy Whichever to you!
Happy Whichever to you!
- How do you greet your tenants this time of year? Do you decorate for the holidays? Are your decorations for Christmas or Hanukah or Kwanza or any other celebration? As a kid I remember only Christian and Jewish kids in my school. Even the kids who did not go to services or attend worship still celebrated the holy days and feasts in some fashion. So it was safe to say, “Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah!” and you covered 99.9% of everyone. We don’t live in that world any longer. There are many, many religious traditions in my child’s school. There are many people who think that the U.S. constitution gives them freedom from religion as much as it gives others freedom of religion. So you will offend someone if you do or say anything related to Christmas and Hanukah …or if you don’t! So what do you do as a property manager? You could decorate as you please and not worry about it. You could try to decorate to every holiday or religious festival of the 27 most prevalent ethnic and religious groups in your area. You could do neutral decorating of festive and flower arrangements that could not be categorized one way or the other. Or you could do nothing and let your tenants decorate their spaces as they wish. I think you have the option. Someone is sure to complain no matter which course you choose, so make yourself happy. Tron
