Don’t Take Advantage of the People Closest To You

Sometimes you don’t really realize how you may be reacting to the people closest to you. This doesn’t have to be only blood relatives. This can be anyone who you are around much of the time. Yes, this includes co-workers.

One thing that we have to realize is that you want to maintain the same persona with all of those around you. O.K. family members in the privacy of your own home may be a little different. But when it comes to the work place, it is a bit different.

In the business aspect of it… if you are on the phone with a caller, most likely you are trained to remain calm, hear your customer out and help figure out a solution with them. You might get a bit frustrated, but “bite your tongue” is a really good practice to put in place is you don’t already have it.**You aren’t supposed to argue with your customer. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t think that the customer is always right, either. But we do need to get all of the details so we have what we need in order to figure out where something may have went off track and try to put it back on track. End goal… ending the call/conversation with a satisfied customer or at least on a good note… feeling as if something got accomplished on both ends. Grin and bare it! Right? Sometimes in the work place, we don’t practice the same guidelines because maybe we feel more comfortable with those around us. This could be anyone; co-workers, employees or bosses. We should all integrate our phone skills training in with our in-person people skills. When dealing with a difficult situation in person, think about how you would deal with it as if you were on the phone with a customer. Are you taking advantage of your internal customer’s?
