Columbia Self Storage – Lock And Stock

Columbia self storage in Missouri can be perfectly safe and secure. Even in a city with more than 91,000 people, your personal belongings can be tucked away safe and sound in a storing facility. However, I encourage you not to take my word for it because the security which goes into protecting peoples personal possessions should be self-examined.

Columbia self storage facilities vary in their security measures, but most have some basic features. Almost every storing facility has a fence of some sort, which is composed of metal and has one or more entrances by a computerized gate. Computerized gates come in quite a variety. Usually, they are operated by two main computer consoles inside and outside of the gate. These consoles may have a pin code required to open them, or customers may be given a card with a magnetic strip that can open the gate. Gates without a computer system will have a padlock, and copies of the keys are given to customers. Some have barbed wire over the top of the gate, whereas others have electric fencing over the top.

An important feature to look for in searching for the right facility is to make sure the main gate is monitored by video at least, but it is better if there is video surveillance along with an actual security guard or manager watching the gate. This may mean a slightly higher price, but will help ensure safety. However, part of looking for the right facility is taking an inventory of what you are storing. If the items you are packing have little or no value to the general public, then storing at a facility without a personally manned gate is no big deal. However, if you are storing anything of value, there are storage facilities and units that have higher standards of security. Continuing on the exterior security in storing facilities, many storing facilities also have restricted hours of availability, though some are open all day and night. Once again, what is being stored will determine whether or not hours of availability are important. Part of a facility security is also determined on location. A secure business will be located in an upper class part of the city amid many other shops or businesses.

But security does not stop with what is on the outside. Every Columbia self storage unit has a door and lock of some sort. The door is either a characteristic swinging door on hinges, or a garage door. This usually depends on whether you can drive you car directly to your personal space or you have to walk there. If the units are inside of a building, the doors will be on hinges. As for the locks, some have a key, whereas others have a computerized lock system. This computerized system in the facility typically works very similar to the computerized gate, with either a code to enter or a card to be read by the console.

There is one aspect of security which most people overlook. A meeting with the owner can provide great insight into whether the storing facility is secure or not. Making sure that the owner is reasonable and capable to run a storing facility is one of the greatest ways to feel confident about the storage facilities you choose.
