Have you seen the credit card commercial that takes place in the conference rooms of competing corporations? I love this commercial because it rings so true. Competing companies are always trying to steal the number one spot in the market by trying to figure out each other’s game plans and best them. But if you concentrate too hard on what the other guy is doing you limit yourself by relying too much on what your competition is doing and not enough on your own ideas. You can see the commercial online by visiting www.visa.com and clicking on “view our new advertising.” Round and round they go wondering what the other is doing or what they’re thinking to come up with the next big thing, until the last guy wonders what the first guy was thinking and then they start all over again. It really is a good moral, even though I’m not really endorsing any credit card company over another, I believe in the message of this particular commercial. “Business takes inspiration” is the tagline. It’s true. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the guy down the street or across town, but above all else, have faith in yourself and your own ideas. After all, it’s your business that you’re running, right?
